-- On the occasion of Arbaeen, a mourning ceremony was held yesterday, February 4, in Istanbul’s Halkali Square, IHA news agency reported.
Organized by Jafari Shia Muslims, the ceremony started in the city’s Zainabia Mosque. The mourners then moved to the Halkali Square to listen to a sermon by Salahuddin Uzgunduz, leader of Jafari Shia Muslims.
In his sermon, Mr. Uzgunduz advised all to learn lessons from the event of Ashura.
He also said that those who intend to disrupt ceremonies mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) would never achieve their goal.
Arbaeen marks the 40th day after Ashura (a day in the year 61 of Hijra (680 AD) when the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions took place in the city of Karbala-now in southern Iraq).
