On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), a great ceremony was held on January 2 (12th of Rabi al-Awwal) in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine region of France.
Thousands of Muslims participated in the ceremony organized after a march three kilometers to the region's Quba Mosque.
The chanted Allahu Akbar (Allah is The Greatest) and Muhammad Rasullullah (Muhammad is the messenger of Allah) while holding banners, posters, placards and green flags marking the auspicious occasion.
Speakers at the program described the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a great mercy to the whole world and a role-model of kindness and compassion.
According to Sunni narrations, the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal (on the lunar calendar) is recognized as the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The period from the 12th to the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal (which according to Shia Muslims was the birthday of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)) is called "The Week of Unity" and celebrated by Muslims all over the world.
