Praise or flattery?

Praise or flattery?

If praising others is unreal and exaggerated then the person who gives praise is committing the act of hypocrisy and is lying and according to Imam Ali (AS) this is somehow making fun of the one who is being praised [1]. If praise falls short of the reality, then in this case the one who gives praise is suffering from jealousy and helplessness [2]. If giving praise is real and in front of the one who is being praised but is repeated and emphasized many times, in this case, the one who is giving praise is suffering from the illness of flattery [3].

If the praise given is real and in front of the person who is being praised even though it is not done repeatedly, although the one who is giving praise is not committing flattery but the prophet (PBUH) said: This type of praise is also not allowed [4]. If giving praise is based on reality and in the absence of the person who is being praised and is brief and short, there is no problem in this [5].
