The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) in the last days of the month of Shaaban delivered a sermon known as the Shabaaniyeh Sermon. In this sermon, the prophet (PBUH) outlined the duties of those who fast in the holy month of Ramadhan.
O’ People, the Month of God has arrived for you with all its blessings, mercy and forgiveness. A month which is the best month with God, its days are the best of days, and its nights are the best of nights, and its hours are the best of hours; a month in which you have been invited to God’s feast and you have been dignified in it.
Your breaths in it have the rewards of praising God and you sleep in this month has the reward of prayers. Your deeds and prayers are accepted in this month; so request from your God with pure and true intentions, request God to grant you to achieve the fasting and recitation of the Quran in this month. Unfortunate is the one who has not been granted Divine Forgiveness in this great month.
In this month with your thirst and hunger, remember the thirst and hunger on the Day of Judgment. Help the poor and the needy, respect the old ones, be kind to children, have connection with relatives, guard your tongue from inappropriate sayings, cover your eyes from seeing Haram and your ears from what is wrong.
Be kind to orphans so after you, they are kind to your orphans. Repent and return from your sins to your God. At the time of Salaat, raise your hands for Dua because the time of Salaat is the best of times and in these times, Allah (SWT) will look at God’s servants with mercy and if they supplicate and call God, they will be answered, and if they request God, they will be gifted and when they call God, their prayers will be granted [1].
