AhlulBayt News Agency - Hours after the famed qawwal Amjad Sabri was killed in a gun attack, prominent Shia noha Khawan (reciter of elegies) Farhan Ali Waris escaped an assassination attempt in Karachi.
He was on his car and surrounded by some armed takfiri terrorists of so-called banned Ahl-e-Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat (ASWJ) near the Teen Hatti area of the metropolis.
The terrorists were about to open the fire on him, but his security guard opened the fire on terrorists and forced them to flee.
After the murder of Amjad Sabri, he was provided a security guard today by the welfare organisation Jafaria Disaster Cell.
Waris, known for his rendition of Nohas on television channels, said he had just got off at his home when the car came under attack by the gunmen on a motorcycle. “They probably thought I was in the car but fortunately I had got off at my home. My security guard got suspicious when the gunmen approached the car and he opened fire on them and they ran away,” the Shia Muslim scholar said.
Earlier in the day, renowned qawwal Amjad Sabri was shot dead after armed terrorists of ASWJ fired at his vehicle in the city’s Liaquatabad area.
Sabri, 45, and an associate were travelling in a car in Liaquatabad 10 area, when unidentified gunmen fired at their vehicle, critically injuring him. The two were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital immediately, where Sabri succumbed to his injuries.
Farhan and Amjad regularly participated together and enthralled viewers with their renditions of Sufi poetry and Naats in Ramadan shows on local television channels.
