(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A Bahraini youth was returned to prison this week after being accused of insulting a public official.
Ali Al-Qassab was taken into custody during a hearing at a Manama courtroom and is expecting a verdict on June 5.
The 23-year-old, who suffers from a severe form of sickle cell disease, already spent nearly four years in prison for taking part in anti-regime protests. He was released late last year.
Following his arrest in 2013, Manama’s security forces reportedly tortured Al-Qassab and forced him to confess to a series of offenses.
His time in detention was also marred by allegations of abuse, which resulted in a permanent disability.
