-- The annual meeting of Imams, muezzins and preachers of mosques of Jordan was held by Endowments Office of Irbid on December 28, Al-Dastoor newspaper reported.
Chaired by director of the office, the meeting had over 1200 participants including Jordanian missionaries and preachers.
Addressing the program, Jamal Batayneh stressed reinforcing the role of mosques and preachers as well as those of religious activists which is necessary to realize spiritual objectives of these religious centers.
He added, “the year 2010 ought to be the year of education during which a number of Islamic programs are due to be carried out such as holding courses on Quran reading, Islamic principles, jurisprudence, Arabic language, prophetic tradition and skills of life and oratory.”
He also called for the establishment of Zakat associations in order to remove poverty from the Islamic society. “It is on Imams of mosques and preachers to clarify the importance of endowments in Islam and encourage people to pay alms through familiarizing them with its advantages.”
