Nat’l Quran Competition Underway in Mauritania

Ahlul Bayt News Agency, According to Mauritania’s official news agency, 145 contestants are competing in the three-day event, which is held under the supervision of the country’s Islamic Affairs and Education Minister Ahmed Waled Alnini.

The contest is held with the aim of encouraging memorization of the Quran and honoring Quran reciter and memorizers, Muhammad Walad Shuwaf director of the Islamic affairs ministry’s Islamic guidance department said at the opening ceremony.

He added that it is also aimed at promoting Islamic and Quranic values in the Mauritanian society.

Winners of the contest will receive precious awards at the closing ceremony, he went on to say.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a Muslim country in western Africa. Its total estimated population is about 3,300,000 having 99 percent Muslim population.
