Thousands of Indian Muslims stage demonstration against Obama visit

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Led by renowned Shia Scholar, Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawwad, General Secretary, Majlis Ulema-e-Hind, thousands of Muslims after Friday Prayers, staged a demonstration at historical Asafi Imambara in Lucknow to protest US President’s India visit.

Holding anti-US and anti-Israel placards that read 'Obama go back”, “Obama Murdabad”, “Death to America”, “Death to Israel”, the demonstrators also burnt US flag. Earlier, addressing the demonstrators, Jawwad, Friday Prayer leader of Asafi Mosque said: 'The visit of Obama will not benefit the country in anyway and linking it with progress is baseless'.

Condemning the US hegemonic policies, Jawwad, who is also a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), branded both Israel and the US anti Muslims. He urged Indian government to change the national policy towards these nations as India is a land of Gandhi and Nehru who were the firm believers of non-violence.

Elaborating that there is no big difference between Bush and Obama, he said that pursuing wars of aggression and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan, complicity with Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, sanctions against Iran, all point to the continuity of the Obama administration with the policies of the erstwhile Bush regime.
“There were expectations of positive changes in US policies after Obama took charge, but unfortunately these hopes, however, have been belied.

At the end the demonstrators strongly condemned the United States for its wrong policies in the Middle East, particularly towards Iran.
Large number of Shia Scholars and Anjumans belong to Lucknow took part in the demonstration.
