Vatican delegation became familiar with Muslims’ status in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The delegation took part in a meeting attende by Othman Khan Alimov, Mufti of the Republic and Head of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan and Artiq Beik Yusufov, head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs in the country.
Members of the delegation headed by Archbishop Ivan Yurkovich, Pope’s representative in Uzbekistan, visited the library of Imam Bukhari Historical Complex in Tashkent, the capital city, and became familiar with activities of the Islamic center.
The meeting was organized by the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan on January 26.
Speaking at the meeting, the head of the committee introduced Muslims’ condition in this country and stressed that all religious organizations in the republic are of equal rights.
Also addressing the meeting, the head of the board said that Muslims are completely supported by the government of Uzbekistan.
“Today there are many mosques and Islamic schools in the country and fortunately the government supports the religious centers in holding various programs on Haj.”
The Archbishop Ivan Yurkavich thanked the religious officials in Uzbekistan for their warm welcome.
