Thousands of Italian Muslims gathered in Republic Square leading to the US embassy here on Friday and condemned insulting movie to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
The Italian Muslims gathered in the 'Republic Square' and expressed their hatred to the makers of anti-Islam movie named 'Innocence of Muslims' and hostile policies of the US against Muslims.
Italian anti-riot police surrounded the protestors and prevented them from marching toward the US embassy.
The protest took more than 2 hours.
Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi described the decision made by some governments to block access to websites that are contributing to non-positive behaviours which are inciting hatred as "absolutely legitimate".
Terzi said there is "a thin, but clear line" between freedom of expression from religious freedom and Italy has "a clear stance" on that, because it recognizes the crime of religious defamation.
Terzi went on to say that the Italian government can't tolerate the mockery of important values, such as religious faith, but not even that can be used as an excuse to cause violence.
