A prominent Iraqi Qari stressed that the activities of Quranic institutes in his country have progressed significantly.
Speaking to IQNA, Ali al-Khafaji attributed the progress partly to the experience taken from the Quranic activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"Implementing Quranic activities is a new experience in Iraq (that started after the overthrow of the former dictator Saddam Hussein's regime) and we have benefited a lot from the experiences of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this field," he stated.
Al-Khafaji, who heads the competitions and conferences department of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine's Dar-ol-Quran Center in Karbala, further underlined that Quranic institutes play a major part in the development of Quranic culture.
He said they also help to prevent the spread of Takfir and extremism because promotion of the Quranic culture prevents extremism from spreading.
Al-Khafaji added that as well as providing Quranic education, Quran institutes ought to inform their students of the danger of deviated groups that misrepresent Islamic teachings and propagate their own ideas in the name of Islam.
He described the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as one of these groups and said the terrorist group's origin is non-Islamic and its members have deviated ideas.
He stressed that if ISIL were an Islamic group, its main aim should be uprooting the Zionist regime but it is instead fighting Muslims.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iraqi Quran activist also called for interactions among the Muslim world's Quranic institutes and said they should work together to enhance unity among Muslims.
