Hundreds of thousands Pakistanis protest against Islamophobia in Europe, USA

LAHORE - Demonstrations continued on Wednesday across the Pakistan in protest against the blasphemous acts of French magazine, Charlie Hebdo.

People from different walks of life are expressing their anger against the act of the magazine in the name of so-called right to freedom of expression.

Doctors and medical students staged a protest at Mall Road against the French magazine.

Medical professionals and students from various teaching hospitals across Punjab including world renowned orthopaedic surgeon Prof Dr Amir Aziz participated in the protest organised by the Muslim Medical Mission.

Addressing the protest, Muslim Medical Mission president Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal said that Western countries had become scared of popularity of Islam and Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He called upon the government to increase pressure on the United Nations and Europeans Union for an international law against blasphemy.

Dr Zafar announced that that protests would be held in all medical colleges on Jan 23 against the publication of sacrilegious caricatures.

Speaking on the occasion, Young Doctors' Association president Dr Abubakar Gondal said blasphemy was the biggest terrorism in the world and there would be no peace in the world if adequate international laws were not made against it.

Separately, Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool announced holding Hurmat-e-Rasool marches across the country and Azad Kashmir against the publication of blasphemous caricatures.
All political and religious parties which were part of Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool would actively participate in the marches.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek also announced to observe "Youm-e-Azamat-e-Rasool (SAW)" on Friday.
The day would be observed on direction of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri.
Rallies would be taken out in various cities across the country.

WCR condemns blasphemy

The World Council of Religions (WCR), a representative platform of different religions practicing in Pakistan; has condemned the publication of blasphemous caricatures of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The WCR, in a statement, said that no follower of any religion could do that.
It is entirely the act of such secular minded people who want to disturb the peace processes among religions in the world, it added.

The WCR believes that freedom of expression is not the way of hurting others by any means as everyone must have to be in particular limits to assure individual and human peace as well.

The WCR demanded the world's religious as well as political leadership to immediately organize a dialogue to formulate a universal policy which can help avoid such acts and intentions around the world.

In addition, the WCR also demanded of the French government to punish the responsible persons and agencies so that the respect of sacred spaces of all religions can be assured in future.

The supreme council of WCR included Maulana M Hanif Jalandhry, General Secretary Wafaq-ul-Madaras Al-Arabia Pakistan, Bishop Emaritus Diocese of Peshawar, Church of Pakistan, Bishop Samual Azariah Moderator Bishop Church of Pakistan, Maulana M Yasin Zafar Nazim-e-Aala Wafaq-ul-Madaras Al-Sulfiya Pakistan, Qazi Niaz Hussain Naqvi vice President Wafaq-ul-Madaras Al-Shia Pakistan and others.
