Tajik Supreme Court brands ISIL as terrorist organization

The Tajik Supreme Court has branded the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as the terrorist organization and put it on the relevant list, a court source told Interfax on Friday.

The local media confirmed the report, with the reference to unnamed sources.

"The republic has a list of outlawed groups and organizations. Information about some of the groups on that list, among them ISIL, is classified," the source said.

According to him, the Supreme Court made the decision to add ISIL to the list of terrorist organizations about a month ago.

Tajik human rights activists said after the media reports that the Supreme Court was breaching procedural law by concealing such decisions from the general public.

The Tajik Interior Ministry said it knew about 386 Tajik citizens fighting for ISIL. About 40 of them left Tajikistan together with their families.
