Lebanese Shia, Sunni Clerics Urge Tackling Takfiri Threat

Two prominent Shia and Sunni clerics in Lebanon underlined the need for tackling the threat posed by Takfiri terrorist groups.

Seyed Hashem Safiyeddin, the head of Hezbollah’s executive council, and Sheikh Mahir Abdul Razzaq, the president of Lebanon’s Al-Islah wa Al-Whada (reform and unity) Movement delivered speeches at a religious center in southern Lebanon, both calling for confronting the ominous phenomenon of Takfir.

Safiyeddin in his speech described Takfiri groups as a real threat and stressed that Lebanon’s Islamic Resistance Movement was the main barrier against the infiltration of Takfiri groups into the country.

He added that if had not been for the resistance movement, Takfiri groups were now present in every city, town and village in Lebanon.

Sheikh Abdul Razzaq, too, praised the resistance movement for defending Lebanon against Takfiri groups.

He also said if certain Arab countries instead of supporting Takfiri terrorists used their capacity against the Zionist regime, Muslims now would say their prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Over the past months, Lebanon has been facing terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda-affiliated militants as well as random rocket strikes, which are viewed as a spillover of the conflict in Syria.

Terrorists affiliated with al-Nusra and ISIL Takfiri groups overran the northeastern border town of Arsal from neighboring Syria last August, killing and capturing more than three dozen soldiers and security forces there.
