Turkish people hold rally in Istanbul in solidarity with Syria

Hundreds of people have organized a rally in the city of Istanbul to voice their solidarity with the Syrian government and people in their war against terrorism.

The demonstrators, supporters of Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), gathered at Kadikoy Square on Sunday, raising Syrian and Turkish flags, and holding banners with slogans condemning the war on Syria.

The chairman of CHP Youths Department, Porcay Dozja, said during the march that Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), in collaboration with some Western and Arab countries, has been involved in conspiracies against the Syrian nation by supporting terrorist groups operating in the country.

“We all are Syria, we all are against terrorism and terrorists,” Dozja said, censuring the aggressive anti-Syria policies of the Turkish government.

The Turkish government has been one of the main supporters of the terrorist groups fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since 2011, with reports showing that Ankara actively trains and arms the militants operating in Syria, and also facilitates the safe passage of would-be foreign terrorists into the country.

Apart from Turkey, the militants operating in Syria are also backed by the US and its regional allies Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
