Ahlul Bayt News Agency - BERLIN, Germany - Hundreds of people have taken to the streets in the German capital Berlin to commemorate the International Quds Day and show solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian nation.

The demonstrators marched in central Berlin on Saturday, waving Palestinian and Lebanese flags and shouting anti-Israeli slogans.

Some carried the portraits of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, , who named the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day in 1979.

However, many in Europe have to observe the day on the weekend rather than Friday, a holiday in Islamic countries.

The protesters held placards reading "Freedom for Palestine" and denounced the Israeli regime’s horrific crimes against the nation.

The demonstrators marched through the streets of Berlin under the motto of “Muslims, Jews, and Christians hand in hand against Zionism.”

“We have a responsibility in front of God to fight against this [Israeli] injustice and to stand up for the people [of Palestine],” said a protester.

The International Quds Day condemns “the oppressors against the oppressed in the world. It’s not only the case of Palestine, which is for sure one of the most important cases in this world, but it stands for all other cases we have, like in Yemen and Syria,” another protester said.

The International Quds Day is observed annually in various countries around the globe. Millions of people stage rallies to voice support for the Palestinians and repeat calls for an end to the Tel Aviv regime’s atrocities and its occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Israel maintains a defiant stance on the issue of illegal settlements construction on Palestinian land and refuses to freeze their expansion. Over half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Tel Aviv also denies about 1.8 million people in the Gaza Strip their basic rights, including freedom of movement, jobs with proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
