On the occasion of the anniversary of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) demise and martyrdom of Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Reza (AS), which fall on the last days of the lunar month of Safar, a large number of pilgrims in the holy city of Mashhad have paid a visit to the museum.
Written in Kufic script on deer skin, the precious Quran copy is one of the most attractive historical, spiritual and cultural heritage items at the museum of the Razavi Astan (custodianship).
The manuscript includes the verses of the 23rd to 25th Juzes (parts) of the Quran written on 122 pages.
It was donated by Shah Abbas Safavi I to the Astan of Imam Reza (AS) in 1008 A. H. The endowment letter was written on the first page of the manuscript signed by Sheikh Bahaei.
There are 97000 holy books and handwritten manuscripts in the Treasury of Handwritten Manuscripts of Astan Quds Razavi and from among 22000 holy books available in the treasury, over 100 Quran manuscripts are attributed to the handwriting of eight of the Infallible Imams (AS).
The 28th day of the month of Safar (the second month in the lunar Hijri calendar) marks the demise of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). The day also marks the martyrdom of the holy prophet’s grandson Imam Hassan (AS), the second revered Shia Imam.
The martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Imam of Shias, who was martyred on the last day of the month of Safar, will also be mourned by Shia Muslims around the world.
