An Afghan Shi’a scholar has said that Saudi Arabia has embarked on a project to sow discord between Sunni and Shi’a Muslims in the war-torn country and called for national unity.
Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Isa Hoseyni-Mazari, the director of the Tebyan Centre of Cultural-Social Activities, referred to the terrorist movements and inhuman activities promoted by Saudi Arabia in Afghanistan and noted the unity of the Afghan people in the past, saying that in the past few decades the Saudis have interfered in Afghan affairs and have spent large amounts of money to promote sedition and create division between Sunnis and Shi’a Muslims in the war-torn country.
Hujjat al-Islam Hoseyni-Mazari made the remarks during his speech at a ceremony marking the martyrdom of prominent Saudi Shi’a cleric Ayatollah Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.
The Afghan cleric said that Sunnis and Shi’as must be vigilant and do more to advance Islamic unity by learning from every opportunity available, adding that there must be serious action in this regard in order to create authority and power in Afghanistan.
His Eminence warned Afghan authorities over the ISIL project in the country, saying that ISIL is not from Afghanistan and none of the leaders or commanders of the several Takfiri terrorist groups present in Afghanistan are Afghans, although they have been able to recruit soldiers from among the Afghan people due to poverty.
“If ISIL comes to dominate Afghanistan, they will not show any mercy to Sunnis nor Shi’as,” he said.
Hujjat al-Islam Hoseyni-Mazari explained that our Sunni brothers know how ISIL in Iraq and Syria acts toward the Sunnis of those countries. They have even destroyed Sunni religious centres just as they have destroyed Shi’a ones. Just as they have beheaded Shi’a youths, they have also beheaded Yazidis and Christians as well.
