Senior cleric Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi underlined the need for unity and proximity of religions as a means to eliminate terrorist thoughts.
Ayatollah Makarem made the remarks in a meeting with the Chancellor of France Catholic University here on Monday .
He added that two conferences were held this year and past year o attract attentions of woorld nations to the danger of terrorism.
The ayatollah said that clergymen everywhere in the world shoulder heavy responsibilities concerning this issue and for sure with the help of the God Alimighty every heavy task can be fulfilled.
Ayatollah Makarem termed France as one of the important and influential countries in the world's scientific circles and added that the way politicians act is different from that of men of religion while politicians find their targets in emerging differences among religions.
He recalled the crusades that took 200 years and led to massive destruction and massacre of people.
'Based on such an experience, we should try for proximity of religions, especially when we all have a common enemy and that is opposition to religions,' he said.
Ayatollah Makarem said that it is in the interest of Muslims and Christians to close ranks and further interact in order to better understand each other.
