Quran Competition in Karbala

The second edition of a national group Quran competition has been underway at the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala, Iraq.
According to alkafeel.net, the competition began on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan on June 7.

It has been organized by the Center for Training Quran Reciters and Memorizers affiliated to the Quran Institute of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS).

The opening ceremony of the competition was held with Quran recitation by Amir ‘Amer, a member of “Amir Al-Qurra” Quranic society in Iraq.

Sheikh Javad Al-Nasrawi, director of the institute welcomed the participants in the competition and said the main objective of the event is to disseminate the Quranic culture in the society and raising a generation familiar the teachings of the Divine Book.

24 groups from 12 provinces of Iraq have participated in the Quranic competition. Each group comprises a Qari, a memorizer and an interpreter of Quran.

The group from Maysan Province competed with the team from Dhi Qar and won on the first day of the competition.

On the second day, the competition was held between the teams from Nineveh and Diyala and those from Babil and Dhi Qar. The Nineveh and Babil teams were the winners.

Alforat TV channel broadcasts the competition everyday at 1 a.m. and after the noon prayers.
