The leader of the ISIS in India, Mohammad Shafi Armar, was killed a few days ago in a bombing in Syria, which is a blow to the terrorist organization in this country, today revealed an intelligence source.
A security spokesman explained that Armar, alias Yusuf, was given the task by the self-proclaimed ISIS caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, of creating a cell in this South Asian country.
The official explained that he died in a US drone attack in Syria, but details on location or date were not provided.
In the past 18 months, more than a dozen alleged extremists of the group arrested in India mentioned Armar as the head of this terrorist formation in the country, highlights the newspaper.
According to the authorities, the deceased, 26, was a native of the town of Bhatkal, in the southwestern state of Karnataka, and headed Junud ul Khalifa e Hind (Army of the Indian Caliphate), a group formed last year to serve as a spearhead of the ISIS in the country.
His older brother Sultan Armar, who headed the ISIS branch in India, was killed also in Syria in March 2015.
As part of the actions against the ISIS, the Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh met in February with leading Muslim clerics in the country whom he called to work together to confront the threat posed by such group.
