Head of the Bahraini Ulama Islamic Council, which was dissolved by the authorities, Sayed Majeed Al-Mashaal, said that Shiites are facing "the biggest targeting in our contemporary era".
Al-Mashaal said in a speech he delivered on Saturday (July 9, 2016) "we are in front of the biggest targeting and challenge in our contemporary era. After the revocation of Sheikh Isa Qassim's citizenship, who among us still guarantees his citizenship, every citizen is threatened in his own home. This is a blatant oppression and violation."
"We are in a position to defend our existence as a sect in this country," he added.
Al-Mashaal further stated "We are targeted; our sect, figures and political, religious and cultural institutions are targeted. This is an inclusive targeting."
"We shall take a stance that matches with this targeting. We shall take a stance that reflects our wisdom, responsibility and steadfastness. We are not in a conflict position; we are in a position to defend ourselves and holies." he continued.
Sayed Majeed Al-Mashaal continued "we are not looking for a material victory here or there. We are only doing our duty. We are oppressed and targeted. Our position is strong because we are with the truth and justice."
