Bahrain regime arrest Sheikh al-Asfour, A reciter and number of Diraz residents

- Sheikh Saeed al-Asfour and religious vocal reciter Abdul Jabar al-Dirazi, were detained on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, after being summoned to stand before the investigators of the Budaiya police station.

Along with a number of Diraz residents, Sheikh al-Asfour and al-Dirazi were transferred and detained at a police station in Hamad Town.

Sheikh al-Asfour and al-Dirazi are residents of the Diraz area, and their summoning is expected to be related to the month-long demonstration taking place in Diraz, which was launched after the authorities' decision to strip the Bahraini Shia spiritual leader Sheikh Isa Qassim of his nationality, on June 20, 2016.

This comes after a number of summoning for Islamic clergies during the past days, the last of which was that of the Friday Imam of Imam Sadiq Mosque in Diraz, Sheikh Mohammad Sanqour, who was held in custody for a whole day on 17 July, 2016 at the Budaiya Police Station.

Sheikh Sanqour's arrest came after he was accused of alleged charges related to inciting hatred against the regime, and holding Friday prayers and sermons without a license. He was later released after the conclusion of the investigation at the Public Prosecution.
