(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A number of old manuscripts on Quranic sciences have been discovered in a mosque in Egypt’s Beheira governorate, an Awqaf ministry official announced.
Muhammad Sha’alan, the ministry’s representative in the governorate, said they were found in Mukram Mosque in the city of Damanhur, al-Yawm al-Sabi website reported.
He said the rare manuscripts are of great historical significance.
They will be handed to a special committee set up to collect rare handwritten books, Sha’alan went on to say.
Last month, too, a number of old manuscripts, including a copy of the Holy Quran, were discovered in another mosque in Damanhur.
They were found at Sayedi Atiya Abu al-Rish Mosque, director of the province’s Awqaf Department said.
He added that the Quran manuscript is unique in terms of its designs and decorations as well as containing a brief introduction to the letters of the Quran.
The copies had been in the mosque for years but no one knew of their importance.
