When Imam Ali (AS) buried Hazrat Zahra (SA), why her burial is interpreted with returning the trustee?

During the burial of Hazrat Fatima (SA), imam Ali’s speech has been narrated like this: Peace and blessing be upon you, O Messenger of Allah! Greetings from the me and your daughter already descended hastily right beside you. O Prophet of Allah! My patience and tolerance has been decreased by losing Fatimah, and I am incapable of abstinence, but for me tolerance and patience is possible who has already seen and experienced the hardships of your separation and the tragedy of your demise has befallen me. That was me who buried you with my own two hands.and during your death, your honorable spirit flew from between my chest and my neck. "Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return" your trustee has been returned and reached his owner. But my sorrow is eternal. My nights are associated with being awake until Allah Almighty takes me to the position where you reside.

This speech of Imam Ali (a.s) has been also narrated in Shiite authentic sources with small differences that we can claim its content is successive (Mutawatir).

In these words, what Imam Ali (a.s) meant by the trustee was Hazrat Zahra (SA), Imam Ali (AS) interpreted the martyrdom and ascension of Hazrat Zahra (SA) as a return of trustee that we can have some Commentaries.

  • Women are like trustees for their husbands, they have been grown up and then been married toheir husbands, they men are responsible to look after them the best way they can, therefore the women are interpreted as trustee.

Of course, this doesn’t prove Imam Ali’s (AS)incapability in looking after Hazrat Zahra (SA), And the  early martyrdom of Hazrat Fatima (SA) after the Prophet (pbuh) is not the reason for Imam Ali’s (AS) weakness in keeping the trustee. But the problems caused by the people who called themselves followers of the Prophet led to her martyrdom.

  • The Spirit and soul are like trustee in human’s body. The spirit and soul is of Allah and for the materialistic presence in this mortal world needs to be in an object. This spirit stays in the body until the time of death. By death the spirit returns to Allah Almighty. So we can interpret the death as a return of trustee.
