900 bodies exhumed from mass graves in Syria's Raqqa

Raqqa Reconstruction Committee announced that 900 bodies have been exhumed from mass graves in Raqqa where victims of ISIS massacres were buried.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Raqqa Reconstruction Committee announced that 900 bodies have been exhumed from mass graves in Raqqa where victims of ISIS massacres were buried.

After occupying the city of Raqqa, barbaric ISIS gangs murdered large numbers of people and put their bodies in mass graves they created in the city. Using the civilians in the city as human shields during the Syrian Army operations to liberate the city, the gangs savagely murdered hundreds of civilians who wanted to head to freed areas under Army control, and buried them in mass graves.

A special unit under the Raqqa Reconstruction Committee that was founded after the liberation of the city from ISIS, has put much effort into establishing mass graves in the city and exhuming dead bodies. As part of these efforts, 900 bodies have been exhumed from mass graves so far.

ISIS gangs were using the Al-Rashid Stadium in Raqqa city centre as a mass grave, and there are reported to be at least 600 bodies in this area alone.

Doctor Ebdulreûf Ehmed said that most of the bodies they have been able to reach were of women and children, and were unrecognizable. Ehmed said these bodies were being buried in the city cemetery following identification efforts.
