If one is intended to gain reward by reciting the holy Quran, it is the least amount of profit one can acquire from the holy Quran. Because the reward of reciting the holy Quran is so insignificant compared to understanding and acting upon the holy Quran.
Therefore, reciting the holy Quran along with pondering and contemplating upon the verses of it is a recommendation which Almighty God has laid too much emphasis upon:
كتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ
"It is a blessed Book which We have revealed for you so that you will reflect upon its verses and so the people of understanding will take heed" (SAD -THE LETTER SAD- verse 29)
It is essential to note that understanding the concepts of the holy Quran profoundly and thoroughly requires divine knowledge. This knowledge and understanding has been at the disposal of the Prophet (PBUH) and the infallible Imams (AS). Therefore, in order to fully understand some of the verses, one must refer to the commentators of the holy Quran.
