Kuwait to Hold Int’l Quran Contest

-- The Persian Gulf state of Kuwait plans to hold an international Quran competition in March, 2010, Al-Ray daily reported.

Sponsored by the country’s Emir, the competition will be held in the categories of memorization of the Quran as well as Tarteel, Tahghigh, and Tajweed recitation of the holy Quran.

It is slated to commence on March 11, 2010.

The executive committee of the contest held a session Friday to discuss the judging procedures, the contest’s slogan, and the funds needed for organizing the contest. It was chaired by Abdullah Mahdi Barak, Quran and Islamic Studies deputy of Kuwait’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

Creating a competitive atmosphere among Quran memorizers and reciters and promoting Islamic teachings among the youth have been cited as the objectives of the competition.

On the sidelines of the event, best technological projects designed to serve the holy Quran will also be selected and awarded.
