--Mourning ceremonies for Imam Hussein (AS) are uniting and should not be misused as a venue for spreading discord, Tehran’s interim Friday prayer leader said.
Addressing worshippers at Tehran University Campus today, Ayatollah Sayyed Ahmad Khatami added that all Iranians, even those who are not Shia or are non-Muslim, love Imam Hussein (AS).
“The love of Imam Hussein (AS) is mixed and mingled (part and parcel) in the flesh and blood of Iranians,” he underlined.
Ayatollah Khatami said that mourning ceremonies should be carried out in a way so that the dignity of mourning the Imam’s (AS) martyrdom is maintained. “They should not be conducted in a way that makes the enemies of Imam Hussein (AS) happy.”
Referring to the event of Ashura and Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising, he said that Ashura is not something that belongs to the past, but it is relevant today and will be relevant until the Day of Judgement.
Elsewhere in his sermon, he congratulated Christians in Iran and around the world on the auspicious occasion of birth anniversary of Prophet Jesus (AS).
