Bridging religious differences and coming together this holiday season. That's what members of a Christian church and Islamic mosque did Tuesday night in a joint Thanksgiving celebration.
It was a typical Thanksgiving dinner, for a not so typical congregation.
This idea of acceptance started months ago when Heartsong Church learned an Islamic mosque was going to be built next door.
At that time, protests were going strong against the Islamic place of worship that was going to be built near the site of 911.
But instead of joining the cause, the leaders of Heartsong Church wanted to be an example to Christian acceptance and welcomed the incoming Islamic congregation.
This was an extension of that, a traditional holiday meal that was sold out with attendance by members of both religious groups. The dinner was followed by a round table discussion that focused on tolerance.
There was even a news crew from Bahrain here to cover the event.
"It was very overwhelming and very pleasant to know that our neighbors welcomed us the moment we stepped into this neighborhood and they put a sign up to welcome Muslims into the area. And more than that they opened their doors to us during the month of Ramadan and we prayed together and now were celebrating together it's such a great feeling," said Bashar Shala.
