Muslim people in Tunisia staged first Friday prayers in the capital Tunis after the Bin Ali regime was shattered.
Both Bin Ali and his predecessor Habib Bourguiba followed an Ataturk-based approach towards religion and tried to paint the Muslim community in western culture. They also tried to draw the Muslim community away from the mainstream Arab population.
Ataturk approach nevertheless failed and the Turkish population is returning to origins seventy years later and a similar return is seemingly in the making in Tunisia after 54 years of boycott.
