The Arab League warned during a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the consequences of holding the World Health Organisation, the European Region its first conference in occupied Jerusalem on 28 November 2011.
A statement issued on Thursday by the AL Council at conclusion of its meeting said the inclination to hold the conference in occupied Jerusalem contradicts international conventions and resolutions which consider Jerusalem an occupied city, adding that such a move is a dangerous precedence that should not be accepted.
The Arab Foreign Ministers asked the WHO to intervene and prevent this conference taking place in occupied Jerusalem because of the negative repercussions this would have on the peace process in which the city of Jerusalem is considered one of the pillars of negotiations.
The council further called on the UN Secretary General and European states to intervene to stop the conference being held in Jerusalem and to move elsewhere.
