Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) anniversary being observed

Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) anniversary is being celebrated with full reverence, devotion and religious fervour in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. 

Religious processions, special prayer meetings, Seerat Conferences are being organized across the State to celebrate the day. Special functions would be held in the Valley at various shrines and Masjids. 

The biggest congregation will be held at Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar where devotees in large numbers would offer special prayers and have glimpses of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In South Kashmir, thousands of people will offer prayers at Masjids and Shrines mainly at Jamia Masjid Reshi Sahab, Khiram Sirhama, Kaba Marg, Dooru and Seer Hamdan while in north Kashmir Milad procession will be taken out from Janbazwali (RA) Shrine Khanpora and culminate at Astan-e-Alia old town.

Meanwhile, night long prayers were held at various shrines, Masjids and Dargah Hazratbal. Various Masjids and shrines were decorated with lights.

Government asserted that all arrangements have been put in place at Hazratbal and other shrines for the convenience of devotees.

“All departments including Public Health Engineering, Power Development Department and Health Department have made requisite arrangements and SRTC buses have been also kept available for devotees,” Divisional Commissioners Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, said.

The Democratic Political Movement said it would take out Milad procession from Abi Guzar here. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has banned taking out of birthday procession from the area since 1989, citing threat to law and order.

Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari has greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW). In his message he has called upon the people to follow the path of love and tolerance towards creating a peaceful and just society.

“I extend my greetings and good wishes to the citizens of the country on the auspicious occasion of Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) anniversary. Let us pray that we follow the path of love and tolerance towards creating a peaceful and just society,” Ansari said in a statement.

Governor N. N. Vohra has greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) anniversary and expressed sincere hope that this auspicious occasion would be a harbinger of harmony, peace, progress and prosperity in the State.

In a message of greetings, the Governor described Islam as a religion of peace and said that this holy day marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose life was an embodiment of love, equality and brotherhood.

The Governor prayed for the well-being of the people of the State.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has felicitated people on Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) wishing them happiness and prosperity.

In a message issued here yesterday, the Chief Minister said that the birthday of Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) provides us opportunity to pray and seek forgiveness and blessings from the Almighty for the entire mankind.

“Let the day be harbinger of peace and development for the State and the country”, Omar prayed.
