The women of Bahrain will continue her fight

Despite all the repression and tortured faced by Bahraini women at the hands of the authorities, and despite being targeted since 14th February 2011, the Bahraini woman remains steadfast and ready to continue her fight in all aspects of this uprising.

We in the Al Wefaq Women’s Department are watching closely the case of our arrested sisters who have been imprisoned for simply expressing their opinion in front of the Ministry of Interior. The arrest of our sisters reveals the revengeful and unjust policy the authorities are carrying out to prevent the women of Bahrain from practicing their constitutional right of expressing their opinion freely.

The arrest of the four women comes after a number of so-called constitutional amendments that were lauded and celebrated by the government and it’s few supporters. But we stand in solidarity with our four arrested sisters:

1.     Zeinab Al-Khawaja
2.     Masooma Al-Sayyid
3.     Maryam Al-Khazzaz
4.     Zainab Al-Mosawi

This ongoing revengeful policy, confirms the continuous assault against women by the government. Such targeting of female activists is a disgrace to this government.

We in Al Wefaq, call to the international human rights organisations to stand up for the rights of women in Bahrain, which the government has itself agreed to through the signing of international treaties concerning the defence of women.

We call on the international community to condemn the practices against women, carried out by this government who should respect the international norms of human rights.

Finally, we advise the government to stop targeting our activities because we, the women of Bahrain, are strong in our resolve to continue our fight, despite all the repression we face. We will hold steady and not waiver as we head towards the democratic future we look forward to seeing.

The Women’s Department of Al Wefaq demand the immediate release of the four women and call for the respect of all human rights, especially that of the woman.

We must now ask, where now are those governmental establishments that claim to stand up for women and defend their rights? Why are they now turning a blind eye to the grave violations currently being suffered by women in Bahrain?.
