The Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqah-e-Jafaria (TNFJ) on Saturday demanded the deployment of the army in the city to prevent terrorist attacks during Muharram.
It also appealed that political activities should be suspended during this period as a mark of respect for Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS).
While issuing a code of conduct for Muharram at a press conference organised at the Karachi Press Club, TNFJ President Allama Waqar Hasan Naqvi, accompanied by Senior President Allama Syed Sibt-e-Hasan Naqvi, said instead of declaring the routes of Muharram processions as sensitive areas on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, the government should deploy army troops along them to avert terrorist activities.
Speaking about Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s decision to suspend cellular services and ban motorcycle riding in Karachi and Quetta on the first day of Muharram, the TNFJ president said these measures proved that the government had completely failed to bring the law and order situation in the city under control.
“The government always blames a ‘third force’ for the continuous terrorist attacks in the country,” he added. “Instead of arresting the culprits, it plays the blame game.”
To a question, Allama Waqar said instead of imposing a ban on the movement of Ulema, the government should disband the defunct religious organisations that were now functioning using other names.
The TNFJ president demanded that the authorities concerned should have the Moosavi-Junejo Agreement of May 21, 1985 implemented that ensured security for Azadari (mourning) processions.
“Azadari cells should be set up in all parts of the country, including Azad Kashmir.”
Allama Waqar also demanded that concrete steps should be taken to protect the Azadaran (mourners) and all entry and exit routes of the city must be thoroughly checked. “Citizens should also keep vigil on suspicious people.”
Code of conduct
The code of conduct issued on the occasion required all Muslim sects to observe Muharram with love and brotherhood in order to avoid any kind of confrontation that could lead to chaos.
The TNFJ president appealed to citizens to respect all Muslim sects and not hurt the sentiments of any school of thought
He asked Ulema to observe the code of conduct and promote unity and brotherhood among Muslims so that Muharram could pass peacefully.
