The preliminary round of the 24th national Holy Quran competition in Oman began on Saturday, October 18.
The Mahwat Educational Center in al-Wusta province is hosting the Quranic event, which is annually organized by Sultan Qaboos Center for Culture and Sciences, Oman al-Yawm daily reported.
It is held on memorization and Tajweed recitation of the Holy Quran.
According to Saeed bin Hamid al-Zawyani, an official with the organizing committee, 1085 men and women are competing in separate sections in the preliminary round.
6 individuals from each province of the country will make it to the final round which will be held at six levels, he noted.
The final round is slated to be held on Monday, December 1, in the capital city of Muscat.
