His Eminence, Sayyed Jaafar Fadlullah, delivered the two Friday prayer sermons at the Imamain Al-Hassanain Mosque, 11th Rabi' I 1436 H. - January, 09th 2014. Several prominent religious scholars, dignitaries and thousands of believers attended the Jumu'a prayer.
In the first sermon, Sayyed Jaafar Fadlullah, celebrated the birth anniversary of the sixth Imam, Jaafar As-Sadiq (a.s.). He elaborated on one of the many virtues and achievements of the Imam, that of authenticating the Prophet's traditions, and explained the significance of such a task, since the Sunnah of the Prophet (p.) is one of the major sources of guidance and legislation.
The second sermon
In the second sermon, Sayyed Jaafar Fadlullah, condemned the recent barbaric attack in Paris. Following is the text of the political sermon:
The barbaric attack that took place in Paris, the French capital, has been the main headline of the news for the last few days. As we emphasize our condemnation to what had happened, even if it was under the pretext of "avenging the Messenger (p.)", we would like to stress two points; the first is directed to those who have committed this horrendous crime and those who sympathize with them or justify what they did, and in the second point, we address the Western governments in general and the French in particular.
The first point is divided into two parts:
Firstly, the Muslims should have exerted pressure to enact a law that protects their sacred symbols, through the available legal and civilized means, even if it takes a long time, since this is the Islamic means that is based on the main Islamic principle: wisdom, good preaching and resorting to what is best.
Secondly, those who wish to avenge the Messenger should not (by their acts) justify the accusations of the others, especially when the means they resort to consecrate the ugly image the West has depicted and is still depicting about Islam, since all Muslims reflect, to a certain degree, the image of the Prophet (p.). Thus, by these acts, they would be giving the West, in general, the justification to continue to offend the Messenger.
The second point: We call on the Western governments, in general, and the French government, in particular, to deal with the issue in a wise and prudent manner. They should study the deep roots of what had happened, and not leap forward and blame the Muslims yet again. They should also take into consideration that the perpetrators are Western citizens who were born in these societies and grew in them. This necessitates studying both the internal and external elements that exacerbated extremism.
One cannot logically ignore the racism of the successive France policies towards Islam and Muslims, or what has been said that the government is nurturing, in one way or another, the extremist trends that do not actually represent Islam and that practice violence even against Muslims only because they do not have the same points of view as theirs.
The problem of the Western governments is probably that they did not act jointly with the Muslims who adopt the thought of an open Islam to find solutions for the problems of the world. These governments have exerted a lot of effort to promote Islamophobia and depict an image of Islam that focuses on violence and murder, ignoring all the Islamic discourse that calls on the Muslims in the West to abide by the law and act as citizens in the countries in which they reside and contribute in solving their problems with the moral and humanitarian values they carry.
