-- The Holy Ka’aba, its unfamiliar interior, the religious rites performed by Haj pilgrims annually and many other unknown factors about Islam and Muslims have been unveiled to all at the Fanar expo, which opened here yesterday. Organised by Qatar Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) under the supervision of Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the exhibition aims to dispel misconceptions and bring people in Qatar closer to knowing Islam and Qatari culture.
“The exhibition comes as part of our efforts to introduce Islam and the culture here to people. The exhibition will provide them with basic information about Arab civilisation and the various facets of Islam. This exhibition will be made a continuous event and will be held both inside and outside Qatar,” said the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Marri, inaugurating the event at the Doha Exhibition Center.
A replica, half the actual size of the Holy Ka’aba, is the most fascinating part of the exhibition. The cuboidal structure of the Ka’aba in the closed city of Makkah has been intriguing many. Some have even disguised as Muslims to enter the city of Makkah and then the Grand Mosque that houses the Holy Ka’aba, to witness the annual Haj pilgrims’ rituals. Also, Muslims around the world face the Holy Ka’aba during prayers, no matter where they are.
