Ahlul Bayt News Agency - In meeting with Dr Sayyed Amir-Mohsen Ziaei, the president of Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpaygani reminded that a large number of innocent people are being massacred in Yemen on daily basis due to the Saudi-led aggression on the war-torn Arab nation.

The revered source of emulation said that human rights organizations have been completely silent about this matter and have not even brought attention to the issue of Yemen while they claim to be champions of democracy and human rights. “In reality, they are only concerned with their political interests,” he said.

His Eminence added that human life has no value for them and all their claims about defending human rights and democracy are lies.

In regard to the “Rescue” aid ship that Iran’s Red Crescent Society has dispatched to Yemn, Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani stated that this ship is a source of pride for Iran.

A group of humanitarian aid workers, medical technicians, and peace activists from the US, France, and Germany along with journalists and physicians from Iran is setting sail for war-torn Yemen on the ship.

Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani said that everyone should realize that the statements of Western countries concerning supporting other nations are complete lies and added that given the current situation of the world, we must think about supporting the oppressed and downtrodden people throughout the world.

He added that Islamic Republic of Iran is the first line of support and the greatest supporter of the oppressed people of Yemen and stressed that Iran must support them with all its power. He added that with the support of Iran’s Red Crescent Society, we can reveal the scandals of the West and humiliate them.

His Eminence added that the efforts of Iran’s Red Crescent Society in defence of the oppressed people of Yemen are appreciable, especially for Shi’a Muslims, and stressed that these honourable efforts must continue.

In conclusion, Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani stated that the situation in Yemen is “disastrous” and said that we must defend of the Yemeni people, asking: “How can Western countries claim to the support human rights but in this situation [in Yemen], remain silent?"

The Representative of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the Red Crescent Society, Hujjat al-Islam Abdol-Hoseyn Ma’zi, as well as members of the deputy council of the Red Crescent Society also attended the meeting with Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani.

Iran’s Nejat ship with its cargo of humanitarian aid for Yemen has passed Oman and reached the coast of the war-torn country.

Iran Shahed, carrying 2,500 tons of food and medical supplies passed Oman on Saturday and could now face threats from al-Qaeda Takfiri militants and pirates in the area.

In addition to the crew members, the ship is carrying a number of volunteer doctors as well as international activists and media personnel.

Iran has coordinated with the UN to prepare the ground for the ship to dock at a port in Yemen, said Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on May 14.

Riyadh has already blocked earlier Iranian aid deliveries to Yemen. Last month, it prevented two Iranian civilian planes from delivering medical aid and foodstuff to the impoverished people.

Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 -- without a UN mandate -- in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which currently controls the capital, Sana’a, and other major provinces, and to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.
