- Syrian army and allied forces managed on Friday to foil an attempt by the armed groups to advance in west Aleppo toward the axes of Assad Dahiye – Military Academy and Manyan – New Aleppo, after the gunmen declared a new stage of “Abu Omar Maraqeb Assault” to lift what they call “blockade on gunmen in Aleppo eastern neighborhoods.”
The clashes took place within walking distance in which various types of light arms and rocket propelled grenades were used amid artillery exchange.
Militants made desperate attempts to make progress on those axes. However, the Syrian army and its allies valiantly fought them off and inflicted the attackers huge losses, killing at least 17 gunmen and injuring dozens, while destroying a large number of vehicles during the clashes.
The destroyed vehicles included two booby-trapped BMPs west of Aleppo at the 3,000 Apartments axis and another two in New Aleppo, as well as vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns and other vehicles carrying gunmen.
