Iranian religious leader and politician Ayatollah Abdul-Karim Mousavi Ardebili died at a Tehran hospital on Wednesday after falling into a coma as a result of a heart attack on Monday.
'His health conditions exacerbated yesterday and he suffered another heart attack today,' Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi the attending physician of the Ayatollah said.
'His heart conditions became worse compared to the previous day,' Zafarqandi said.
According to the public relations director of the Ayatollah's office, his body is expected to be transferred to the holy city of Qom.
Ayatollah Mousavi Ardebili was born on 28 January 1926 in Ardebil.
After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, he served in several posts in the Islamic Republic.
He was appointed as chief of justice in 1981 by Late Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
