Bahrain's LuaLua roundabout area opened after over 6 years of closure

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The Al-Ayam local newspaper published on Wednesday (June 14, 2017) photos for the Pearl (LuaLua) roundabout, the cradle of the popular protests that erupted in February 2011.

The newspaper said that "Al Farooq Junction", formerly known as Pearl Roundabout, was opened on Tuesday (June 13, 2017) evening. Traffic officers were scene there and engineers from the Ministry of Works were also present to make sure that the rerun traffic signals are functioning well.

The authorities closed the area that witnessed the most mass protests in Bahrain's history after Saudi and Emirati forces entered the country on (March 14, 2011) to crash the pro-democracy protests that demanded putting an end to Al Khalifa monopoly over power.

After closing the area, the Bahraini authorities demolished the LuaLua Roundabout, saying it was a "bad memory".
