KARACHI, Pakistan (AhlulBayt News Agency) - The families and supporters of missing Shia Muslims staged a demonstration outside Karachi Pres Club yesterday to protest against the enforced disappearance of their near and dear ones.
The wives, mothers and children of the missing Shia Muslims were carrying the banners, placards and portraits of their missing relatives. They also raised slogans demanding immediate release of the missing Shias.
Rashid Rizvi of Missing Shias Release Committee, Hassan Raza Sohail and Saghir Abid represented their organizations at the demonstration and spoke to the protesters.
They lamented that bread-earners of Shia families were taken into illegal and undeclared custody without any charge against them.
They said that their detention has cost dearly to their elderly parents, children and wives.
They said these families are dependents on the income of those of their relatives who have been subjected to enforced disappearance.
They demanded that the state authorities are responsible for their poverty and hunger and for all of their sufferings.
They asked the government to tell who will bear expenses of education children of missing Shia Muslims and who will feed them in the absence of their bread earners.
Rashid Rizvi said that if the authorities fail to produce them in the courts of law by Ramzan 15, all Shia Muslims all over Pakistan would hold peaceful protest during Youm-e-Ali mourning processions on month of Ramazan 21.
He said state authorities must respect Constitutional rights of these citizens and obey the law of the land instead of resorting to illegal detentions.
