--The government of Maldives has said that it had identified more problems with the Translation of the Holy Quran, publicized by the President’s Office in 2008.
The new problems were identified in an attempt to correct the mistakes identified previously.
Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of State for Islamic Affairs said that the new problems identified were mixing of the separate volumes of the Holy Quran. Some verses of the Suras were also mixed. He said that such mistakes would be confusing to people who do not know Quran by heart. The decision on the future of the problematic translation would now be decided by the Fiqh Academy.
He also said that although this is the first time Ministry itself had identified the problems, they have received complaints from the public regarding the same issue.
According to the Ministry, it decided to correct all the translation by hand. “We have identified some mistakes on drafting of the translation. But still then we are trying to use them because Government had spent a lot of money on printing them and because there are no new prints out in market” Media officer Ahmedulla said.
The correction is being done by a Committee entrusted with the task. Head of the committee is Deputy Minister Faarooq Ahmed and Fiqh Academy member Ahmed Naseem (BA). The correction is being done by young volunteers with Islamic higher education.
Ahmadhulla also said that the ministry is correcting the copies in the ministry and would decide what they would do with the remaining copies within the government and those among public.
The committee is working during all working days from 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs and 1400 hrs to 1600 hrs.
