Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts (TMCA) is planning to organize an Islamic art exhibition in Munich, including works by a group of Iranian artists.
The three-month-long event will be held in early December, said TMCA Director Mahmoud Shaloui, adding that works by 12 Iranian artists have so far been selected for the exhibition.
He did not mention the names of the artists, but said Munich has been chosen as the exhibition’s venue, IRNA reported.
Islamic art refers to different forms of visual arts such as architecture, calligraphy, painting and ceramics.
The term ‘Islamic’, however, refers to the rich and varied Islamic culture.
TMCA has held two exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, illustrations and installations by famous contemporary artists.
The museum houses a priceless collection of western paintings that are believed to be the best of its kind outside the West.
The collection, which was gathered before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, contains 151 masterpieces by world-renowned artists and is considered unique by many western experts.
The collection includes works by Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky, Joan Miro, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Jackson Pollock and other artists.
