Calm returned to Syria on Monday as Syrian Vice President Farouq Shara said that President Bashar Assad would announce important decisions that will "please the Syrian people" in the next two days.
Assad received on Monday support in the face of the plots against the country from Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz who called him to express the kingdom's support to Syria in the face of conspiracy which targets its security and stability. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the Saudi king expressed Saudi Arabia's stand by the Syrian leadership and people to foil this conspiracy.
Earlier, Assad received phone calls from King of Bahrain Hamad bin Issa al- Khalifa, the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, Iraqi President Jalal al-Talabani, Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The four leaders expressed, according to SANA, their countries' standing by Syria in the face of conspiracy to which it is exposed, targeting its security and stability. They underlined confidence in Syria's capability, as leadership and people, to foil that conspiracy, SANA reported.
Meanwhile, a Syrian official source denied claims talking about a shooting that took place in Daraa by the security forces. The source stressed that talks about opening fire on protestors in Daraa city are completely false.
State television showed on Sunday deserted streets in Latakia, littered with rubble and broken glass and two burned-out, gutted buses.
According to SANA, the citizens and families of the people wounded and martyred in Lattakia province said the attacks launched on Sunday by the armed groups against the people and the security forces members and their attempts of creating chaos and terrorizing citizens in the city stress the objective standing behind them which is aimed at targeting Syria, its national unity, security and stability and inciting sedition within its social fabric.
