On the 4th of July 2016, citizen Ali Hassan Mahdi Mohammad (37 years) was apprehended from Setra, he was taken to the criminal investigation building in Bahrain and he wasn’t allowed a lawyer while interrogating him.
After 4 days of his apprehension he was deported to The United Arab Emirates and then transferred to the criminal investigation building in the Emirates, and till the publishing of this report he hasn’t been transferred to trial yet, and he doesn’t know the charge issued to him, his family though was informed that the reason of his apprehension is a 12 seconds video which he took in UAE and posted on Instagram, the video includes a funeral of Haj Nasser, a funeral related to the Shia band in Bar Dubai territory in addition to images of the Imam Al-Ali mosque and another Hussienieh in that square. After this video was posted Ali was threatened and then apprehended.
And after examining the videos and commuting with the family, the Bahraini German organisation assures that the phrases uttered in the video published by detainee Ali Hassan Mahdi like “where will you flee? All will be crushed.” He was only kidding and meant nothing else as assured by his family, and that is also assured through other videos of the detainee between his family and friends using the same expression just for humour.
The other detainee in the same case is Abbas Ahmad Ali Hussien Marzouk (37 years) from the territory of Maamir, apprehended on the 5th of July 2016 at king Fahed bridge, and transferred to the criminal investigation building in Bahrain, then he was transferred to Dubai and interrogated for three continuous days, the moment he got off the plain he was subjected to verbal abuse.
After interrogation, he was transferred to Al-rafaa center, and stayed there for a while without being presented to the attorney’s office. Then he was transferred to Al-Mawani prison and stayed there for two months also without being presented to the attorney’s office and without a detention prolongation notice nor even knowing his charge, he wasn’t presented to trial either.
The Bahraini German organisation for Human Rights and Democracy considers the deportation of Bahraini citizens to another country even if it’s in the gulf a violation to Bahrain’s ascendancy, an offence to citizenship and an act that undermines general freedoms, especially that those who where deported did not commit a crime but only posted a video, and that is a clear violation to the right of expression.
The Bahraini German Organisation thus calls the Emirati authorities for the release of Bahraini detainees that are held in UAE with no legal obligations, and calls the Bahraini Authorities to stop violating state’s ascendancy by delivering Bahraini citizens to other countries for unfair charges, and preserve the rights of citizenship and public liberties including the freedom of speech which the Bahraini authorities consider as a crime that deserves punishment.
