(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Forensic analysis of the scene where five protesters were killed in Bahrain’s Diraz revealed disturbing details about last year’s deadly raid.
During a press conference in Beirut on Tuesday, Bahraini Shiite cleric and rights campaigner Sheikh Maytham al-Salman aired never before seen documents that offer further insight into how the five youths were killed when Manama’s security forces attacked a peaceful sit-in outside the home of the kingdom’s highest religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim.
According to Sheikh Salman, the five were shot at distances ranging from one to five meters, confirming that they were “deliberately killed by the security forces”.
Moreover, the fatal injuries inflicted on the bodies do not only point to deliberate but also ‘cold blooded executions’.
“The United Nations called for an urgent investigation into the terrible crime that occurred in Diraz, while the Bahraini government did not respond to it and what is needed today from the world is to remind it of the importance of this organization.
“According to eyewitnesses, the government of Bahrain was filming all the details of the operation in Diraz making it possible to identify the parties and individuals involved in the murders,” Salman explained.
He added that Manama is responsible for the wellbeing of Sheikh Qassim, who was placed under house arrest after the deadly raid.
Sheikh Salman also called on Bahrain’s rulers to allow the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions to conduct an investigation into the incident.
