Activists voice concern over incommunicado detention of Bahraini Shia youth

There is growing concern over Hassan al-Moallem’s wellbeing nearly one month after he was arbitrarily detained by Bahraini security forces in the Manama suburb of Juffair.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Activists are reporting that another Bahraini youth is being subjected to incommunicado detention.

There is growing concern over Hassan al-Moallem’s wellbeing nearly one month after he was arbitrarily detained by Bahraini security forces in the Manama suburb of Juffair.

The authorities have failed to release any information about Al-Moallem’a whereabouts and the charges against him since he was reportedly taken to Manama’s General Directorate of Criminal Investigation two weeks. The directorate is a branch of the kingdom’s security apparatus that has a reputation for torturing the regime’s political opponents and critics.

Those taken into custody by Manama’s security forces are often denied their right to a lawyer and face ill-treatment.
